Tales of Other Times – Lore & History
Duration: 2.5-3.5 hours
Start time: Upon agreement. This walk can be booked any time of the day to best fit into your travel-plans. If you are unsure, whether you would like to catch the sunrise or sunset, walk through the day or the night, a quick view at this chart on daylight hours in Scotland, may give you a better idea and I will also be here to help, just get in touch.
Meeting location: Usually Newtonmore or Kingussie, more details will be provided upon booking, once your very personal tour is ready.
Acessibility Information: These shorter walks usually cover approximately 4-8km, depending on your wishes and requirements and the ascent throughout the walk will be below 300m. If you would prefer a flat walk, to one with steep and rocky parts, this can be adjusted without any issues. Thanks to its adaptability, this walk is suited for all fitness levels, but please be aware that you will always need sturdy footing and footwear.
At an average fitness level, these walks would take about 2 hours, however, I always plan with some extra time, as we will be taking breaks to chat, take photos, share stories and have some snacks.
In case of severe weather conditions, I reserve the right to change the route of the walk.
What to bring: Please bring waterproof clothing, as well as sturdy shoes, and be aware that sections of the path can be rather boggy. I also recommend some additional layers, as the weather in the Highlands can change very quickly and be unpredictable at times. For more information on how to prepare and what to bring, please also read the provided packing lists.
There will be ample opportunity for taking pictures, therefore, please also bring a protective cover for your camera, if needed.
Pictures from ‘Tales of Other Times’ Walks
Newtonmore Hill Loop
A group of students from Germany are enjoying the views of Glen Banchor during a well deserved break on a hot day. The top of Creag Bheag is a great spot to share the region’s history and discuss the surrounding features in the landscape.

Kingussie Hill Loop
Walking downhill through the heather, to return to the village after a hillwalk with gorgeous moody skies and rainbows. Here you can learn why white heather is lucky and what Malvina from the Ossianic Collections has to do with it.

Newtonmore River Loop
A break at river Calder, to talk about the potentially supernatural history of the Old Mill of Banchor just above Newtonmore, the ruins of which can still be seen in a crook of
the river. Did the mill burn down because of a curse?

For longer walks, you can choose the ‘Forgotten Memories’ Walk (4-5 hours) and the ‘Home in the Highlands’ Walk (8-10 hours), or even opt for several days of hillwalking wih either an included wildcamping experience, or accommodation with third parties within Badenoch. Just get in touch to discuss.
